savannah rock ‘n’ roll marathon and half

The Competitor Group recently announced a new marathon for 2011 in Savannah, Georgia. Awesome news! Savannah is a cool city and another Georgia marathon is great, especially for the fall season.

I’ve never run a Rock ‘n’ Roll event and it seems like there are mixed reviews depending on what you like about races; they’re expensive (they have good swag), they’re impersonal (they’re a party), they’re huge (they’re huge). Personally, I like smaller or mid-sized events, but I’m a cheapskate and love a good deal with no discrimination, so I signed myself and my mom up for the full and half using the coupon code “EXCLUSIVE” to save $30 off the current price of $95 for the full and $85 for the half. Those base prices are pretty steep for an event over a year away and with no course info, etc but considering the coupon, $65 for a marathon pretty much can’t be beat. The discount code is only valid through August 15th, so you’d better hustle if you’re interested!

The Soldier Marathon and Half is another new race for Georgia that is happening November 13th, 2010 in Columbus. I don’t know a whole lot about Columbus because I’ve only been to Fort Benning once about 15 years ago, but this one looks like a good value at $65 for the full/$50 for the half up until November 1st. Their pricing appeals to last minute people such as myself…they also have military discounts. The course limit is seven hours, so a very walker-friendly marathon. Unless I sprout some serious legs of steel, I don’t think I’ll be able to tack this onto my fall schedule, but you can bet I will be thinking about it after I finish the Ridge to Bridge Marathon on October 30th.

very cool you’re doing it too! it seems to have gained popularity super fast for being over a year away. i know quite a few people from all over who are doing it! let’s just hope it’s worth the price tag!

cool, are you running it as well? full or half? it’s so far in advance, but RNR events are so freaking expensive that $65 sounds kind of awesome.

Very excited about this. I’ve done a few 1/2’s in Nashville, TN (same idea, country music instead of rock n’ roll) and I signed up to do the San Antonio 1/2 in November. $65 sounds like a great price!
